One of the greatest heavyweights of all time has made his prediction for what has the potential to be one of the greatest fights of the modern era – Errol Spence Jr versus Terence Crawford.
The two welterweight champions have been in a will-they-won’t-they battle for years now, despite most in the sport believing a fight between them to be the most vital in that division.
After many false alarms, it has finally been confirmed that the bout is signed for July 29 in Las Vegas.
Crawford – previously world champion at two lower weights – brings the WBO title to the party, while Spence offers the WBC, WBA and IBF collected since a 2017 win over Kell Brook.
Both undefeated, both fearsome finishers, and a genuine pick ’em fight.
Lewis – widely regarded as one of the best heavyweight champions of all time and the last man to be undisputed in that division – feels the same.
Asked by a fan on social media who he was backing, he said he was leaning very slightly towards Crawford.
“Gonna be a crackin fight!”
“Tough one to call. Slight edge to Crawford for me but you never know till [they] settle it in the ring.”
The bookmakers feel the same, with the 39-0 man from Omaha, Nebraska set to enter the ring as favourite.
Spence, though, believes that it ‘could be a one-sided ass whooping’ – and fans expect no less confidence from the man who himself is undefeated in 28 fights.
The two southpaws are set to face off on Showtime PPV, and have already began to hype up what will be a true legacy fight.
It’s set to happen twice with a rematch clause in place for the loser, and the talk is that a trilogy might be in place, the third bout being up at 154lbs.
