Deontay Wilder has often been accused of lacking fundamental boxing technique, but old footage that has resurfaced recently shows he has had pointers from one of the best to ever do it.
Now 37 years old, Wilder’s name and reputation is known far and wide throughout the world of boxing. However, like all fighters, he was once an unknown novice who had to rise up the ranks.
And that is the version of Wilder on display in this clip, which shows him receiving some advice from heavyweight icon Lennox Lewis on how to throw a jab.

Wilder would go on to become WBC heavyweight world champion and one of the most feared fighters of this generation, so Lewis’ tips clearly proved useful.
A clash between Wilder and Lewis’ countryman, Anthony Joshua, seemed to be nailed on to be next, with the fight having been tipped to land in Saudi Arabia in the new year.
However, fears are growing that, for reasons as yet unknown, the cross Atlantic blockbuster will not be next and the heavyweight division will leave boxing fans wanting once more.
Despite the fact the pair have been amongst the blue ribbon division’s elite names for the past six years, it has proved extremely difficult to get Wilder and Joshua in the ring together.
That is likely not down to either of the men themselves, but more so those with vested interest in their careers, so often the reason for the failure of the most demanded fighters to materialise.
The latest from Joshua’s side is that talks are ongoing, but if the bout is pushed back further than it has been already, he may choose to fight in December to stay busy.
