A rematch between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr has been made official for September 2 at Manchester’s AO Arena.
The Sky Sports Box Office broadcast event will see the two Brits face off following their fight in January in which Smith had his hand raised.
The Liverpool man upset the odds by not only beating Eubank, but handing him the first stoppage loss of a career that was partly built on a solid chin.
Eubank activated his rematch clause on February 14 after the fourth round stoppage left his world title dreams in tatters.
Smith is looking to do the same again, and believes this time it will end his domestic rival’s career.
“I’m glad that the date is set now and we can look forward to getting rid of this itch that needs scratching. I’m fully healed up now, injury-free, and I’m looking forward to finishing Chris Eubank Jr’s career on September 2.”
Eubank is known for his confidence, and will step through the ropes with that trademark attribute no matter the result of their first encounter.
He said Smith ‘can’t run forever.’
“No more excuses, no more postponements. Smith can’t run forever. September 2 is the day of my revenge.”
The bout, despite being contracted, was postponed twice and has faced a delay in announcement during which rival promoter, Eddie Hearn, was confident Eubank would instead choose to face his man, Conor Benn, later in September.
Now that it’s official, it’s make or break for Eubank in terms of the top level.
