Liam Smith (31-3-1) headlines a stacked BOXXER card in his hometown as he takes on Hassan Mwakinyo (20-2) at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Saturday 3rd September.
Smith fights at Liverpool Arena for the second time in twelve months as he looks to mount a world title challenge in the super-welterweight division next year. “Beefy” beat Jesse Vargas last time out, in one of the fights of the year, winning by knockout in the tenth round.
He has described his opponent on Saturday, Mwakinyo, as a “banana-skin” and recognises that he can’t afford to take the Tanzanian lightly.
Meanwhile, Mwakinyo will be quietly confident, having knocked out now WBO World Champion Sam Eggington in the second round the last time he fought in the United Kingdom. Mwakinyo has won his last three fights by knockout, beating former world champion Julius Indongo in his last fight via fourth-round stoppage.
Another super-welterweight fighter returning to their hometown is Natasha Jonas (11-2-1), who fights in a world title unification bout with Sweden’s Patricia Berghult (15-0), with both fighters making their maiden defences of their respective world titles (WBO/WBC).
Also making a first defence on the card is the hard-hitting Dan Azeez (16-0), who defends his British Light-Heavyweight title against Shakan Pitters (17-1), in what many fans predict to be the fight of the night.
Fan favourite’s Adam Azim (5-0) and Frazer Clarke (2-0) also return to the ring, early in their respective careers, with the latter taking on unbeaten 22-year-old Bulgarian Pencho Tsvetkov (7-0). Both Azim and Clarke will be looking to continue their impressive starts in the professional game with knockout victories.
Local lad and former footballer Paddy Lacey (6-0) is another addition to the card that will be sure to have the fans behind him, he fights the tough Seamus Devlin (1-37), who is yet to be stopped despite 37 defeats.
