Liam Smith has indicated he would be interested in fighting Chris Eubank Jr.
The former WBO super-welterweight champion fights at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night against Jessie Vargas. A win for ‘Beefy’ will see him knocking on the door for bigger fights.
Over the years the 33-year-old been linked to a fight against Kell Brook. The Sheffield pugilist could be about to face Eubank Jr at a catch-weight this year but Smith says he would be open to facing either man in the future.
“I beat Jessie and I’m back in the mix, knocking on the door for world titles,” Smith told Boxing Social’s Andi Purewal.
“Offer me Brook, offer me Eubank, any of the names who are getting threw about. If you offer me them, I’ll take them. 154 is my division. I’ve been the best 154 in Britain for years now and I stand by that statement until someone comes and beats me and proves otherwise.”
A weight of 158lbs has been apparently agreed for a fight between Brook, a former IBF welterweight champion, and established middleweight Eubank Jr. Smith reveaked he would be willing to do a catch-weight or even move up to middleweight.
“I’d do a catch weight. I’d do 160 if needs be. We’ve sparred in the past. It’s a fight I’m happy for but we beat Jessie and I’m back in a very good position again.”
Of his spars with Eubank Jr, Smith said: “We had some good spars. I think me saying I’d take that fight tomorrow answers a lot of questions.”
