Liam Smith has slammed Conor Benn and his team amidst the ongoing doping drama that has plunged the young fighter’s career into jeopardy.
This week, Conor Benn confirmed that he failed two doping tests – one in July and one in September – as he ramps up the efforts to clear his name
The news surrounding the banned substance in the young fighter’s system, first reported by the Daily Mail, led to his much-hyped fight with Chris Eubank Jr being cancelled.
Whilst a handful in the sport are eager to let Benn have his say, plenty have drawn their own conclusions from the situation. One man who has little sympathy is Liam Smith. ‘Beefy’ took to Twitter to rant about the secrecy, response, and what he sees as a lack of criticism from big names in boxing.
“One of the worse parts about this whole situation. Is, what C***S have kept it quiet, that he failed a test in July? Never mind September. It’s a f****ng joke.”
“Conor fails 2 drug tests, in the space of 3 months, and it’s like he’s blaming the BBBofC? Won’t fight for them again. [What the f**k] have I missed, or am I thick as f**k?”
“Another funny part about this Benn situation is all fighters and ex fighters/boxing people [are] scared to say anything bad in case they upset Eddie [Hearn] or Nigel Benn. Now, it could be EGGS that’s the cause. [Laughter.] Brilliant.”

Eddie Hearn, Conor’s promoter, and Nigel, his father, have both announced their belief that Conor is a clean athlete. They remain adamant that there will be information offered that will be compelling enough for fans to change their minds about the situation, however the first interviews with Benn this week did little to sway the thoughts of the majority.
Smith’s mention of eggs is likely a reference to potential contamination, something both Hearn and Benn have brought up in recent days. It’s a case they are widely expected to mount in the hopes of proving Benn’s innocence.
