The upcoming world title fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr is quickly approaching, and former ‘Loma’ opponent Jorge Linares has given his prediction for the bout.
Linares previously shared the ring with the Ukranian great back in 2018, suffering a 10th round stoppage defeat at Madison Square Garden.
He has now looked ahead to Loma’s next outing, telling ProBox TV that he expects a victory for his former foe due to Kambosos not being the same fighter in the gym that he is in the ring.
“I think Lomachenko wins that fight. I have seen Kambosos a lot of times and he always looks great in the gym, in training. He’s a world champion in the gym, but in the ring he is different. He just doesn’t do the same things that he does in the gym.
“He pushes all his focus into his training camp, his mentality, everything is in the gym. He loses everything, always in the gym. So, that’s why, for me, I’m always with Lomachenko.”
Linares was then asked if he has any concerns that the judges in Australia may lean in favour of native fighter Kambosos.
“I don’t think so. I just don’t see it. I think Lomachenko will come back in a good way, he showed that to everybody in the last fight. You saw how good he looked in that fight, so I think for me Lomachenko wins by decision. Maybe he wins by KO, but I don’t know.”
Lomachenko will be looking to get back to winning ways in the fight after suffering a narrow points defeat to Devin Haney last May, while Kambosos claimed a controversial majority decision victory over Maxi Hughes during his last fight in July.
