Amir Khan and Phil Lo Greco collide on Saturday at the Echo Arena in Liverpool and whilst fans of Khan are expecting the ‘King’ to make a successful comeback, his opponent believes it’s all just smoke and mirrors.
“Athletes have a tendency to lie to themselves, thinking they got that one more in them and it only becomes worse. The examples are already out there. I don’t have to mention the former fighters that have said ‘I got one more in me.’ It only gets worse,” Lo Greco said to Boxing Social after the final press conference.
When asked about Khan’s qualities Lo Greco gave another backhanded compliment.
“We all know he’s got the hand speed and he’s got that drive for the first few rounds. Realistically he’s never had solid legs,” he said.
Khan has made the claim that he’s still got what it takes to get back to world title contention and did not rank Lo Greco highly as an opponent.
“I’ve been working hard. Been doing a lot of rounds of sparring, keeping myself busy. Different sparring partners have come through the ring with similar styles to Lo Greco and showing me new things. I’ve been adapting quick. I know I’ve still got it. I feel sharp. I just can’t wait to get into the ring.
“Them two years, I know I didn’t fight much but I was always in the gym training. I was always keeping myself busy. I’ve not lost much.
“He’s not on my level. After the fight people are going to be like ‘he was never on Amir’s level, he shouldn’t have been in the same ring.’”
