Dillon Danis embarrassed himself in a boxing ring against Logan Paul, refusing to throw punches before forcing the fight to end in a brawl in Manchester.
The vitriol from Danis – a jiu-jitsu black belt and occasional MMA fighter – in the build-up saw him served with a restraining order and lawsuit which will likely stay in the headlines for a while yet.
Bitterness continued into the final press conference when Paul was cut by a microphone swung at him by Danis. Despite the danger of it being opened up in the ring, the PBA-sanctioned bout went ahead.
Jake Paul walked his brother to the ring, followed by Danis – to the surprise of many. Six rounds at a catchweight of 195lbs kicked off as sloppily as everyone knew it would.
Paul looked the more disciplined by some distance. Danis’ output was low, and his high guard did little to protect him from the straight shots coming his way.
Boos in round two, but what were they really expecting? There were more words exchanged than punches until Paul erupted with one minute to go and Danis was noticeably quieter. Good body work from the favourite, zero in return.
Paul mocked the bizarre MMA style shots from Danis in the third, who was looking tender in the face. He lay on his back as if it was in the Octagon, but nobody laughed.
Finally in the fourth Danis landed a better shot than he did at the press conference, but his success didn’t continue. A couple more landed in the fifth, but it looked more and more like an effort in survival. 9 punches to 82 going into the final round. All sizzle, no steak.
Danis strolled around the ring in the last. He can sell a fight but the general consensus will be that he can’t fight one. He tried an MMA takedown and wasn’t even successful.
He tried another, fell and Logan Paul hit him when he was on the ground. Security and teams entered the ring and brawled. Danis swung at a security guard, missed. Jake Paul wanted in on the action. I Predict A Riot by the Kaiser Chiefs played. Total embarrassment.
