Since turning professional in 2013, Vasily Lomachenko has earnt his place in the heart of boxing fans around the globe through his fearless nature and obvious talent.
Lomachenko suffered a controversial third career defeat earlier this year, losing out to Devin Haney by a close unanimous decision in a bout that many viewers had him winning.
As a result, the 35-year-old has more-or-less retained his position with each of the sanctioning bodies despite the defeat.
And, after a short break from the sport, the Ukrainian southpaw is slated to return to the ring, travelling to the backyard of another former lightweight champion in pursuit of a return to the throne.
George Kambosos Jr, who held the unified lightweight title before losing to Haney himself last year, is expected to be in the opposite corner.
With Haney confirming he will vacate all titles he holds as he moves to the super-lightweight division, the clash will likely be for world honours.
Kambosos and Lomachenko are ranked as the number one and two contenders with the IBF and the Aussie appeared to confirm the whispers in an interview with The Ring, as well as revealing the proposed location of the fight.
“We are close to finalising the event deal, Perth is the lead state to host the event but Sydney and Adelaide are showing a lot of interest now and may make a bid to secure the event in their preferred states. Wherever this championship fight lands it will be a sell-out and a spectacular fight between two warriors.”
It’s targeted to take place on April 14 in Australia, with Kambosos set to star in a third world title fight on home soil after twice losing out to Haney.
