Three-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko has given his prediction for the much-talked about possible fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.
Lomachenko, 34, has just come out victorious against previously unbeaten American Jamaine Ortiz. It was his first fight since Russia’s invasion of his native Ukraine, for which he supported the military’s efforts for his country. He now targets a huge match up with undisputed champion, Devin Haney – but there’s another big fight in the division that fans want to see.
When asked for his thoughts on the potential ‘Tank’ and Garcia bout by FightHype.com, ‘Loma’ was said it was too close to call before going on to make a tentative prediction.
“For me it’s 50/50.”
“It’s 50/50 but I think Tank, because [he’s got] more power and he can take a punch. He has a good chin and he’ll know when to throw that one punch.”
With Errol Spence vs Terence Crawford falling through in the last month, we shouldn’t assume this fight is a done deal, but if it is announced, it will be a captivating event. Both men have publicly shared their desire for this fight to happen, especially Ryan Garcia, who seems to be the more vocal on social media.
Garcia holds a record of 23-0 and, although his last couple of fights have been at 140 pounds, he has stated that for this fight he would make lightweight. ‘Tank’ Davis is also unbeaten at 27-0 and is a two-weight champion, currently possessing the WBA Regular Lightweight belt. He is known for his freakish power despite only being 5’5”, with 25 wins coming by knockout – but Garcia packs a punch too.
The fight looks to be targeted for early next year and will easily become one of the biggest of recent times without it even being for a world title – that is if it can be made.
