A domestic grudge match at featherweight in Britain is brewing.
Jordan Gill (26-1, 7 KOs) and Isaac Lowe (20-0-3, 6 KOs) have been exchanging words on social media since Gill’s last win against Cesar Juarez over two weeks ago.
“Good win last night @_JordanGill. You ready to step up with the big boys now don’t be backing out,” former Commonwealth champion Lowe tweeted the day after Gill beat Juarez on Sky Sports.
The fight had been mooted in the immediate aftermath of Gill’s win and the war of words doesn’t appear to be letting up.
“He’s no Lomachenko,” said Lowe. “He’s only a European class fighter, I’m a world-class fighter. I should be able to beat the likes of Jordan Gill. The only way I’ll fight is if it’s for a world title eliminator. I don’t need him, he needs me. If we fight, I’ll finish his career. I’ll break him down and hurt him and put him to sleep. I might just finish you off you little idiot.”
The quotes which can be seen on Twitter handle @travellerboxers brought a response from Gill who relied on sarcasm rather than a bite of the bait.
“Breaking news: Tyson Fury’s water boy proves world class abilities against Johnny Phillips in a six rounder this weekend.”
Lowe does indeed return to action this Friday as part of MTK Global’s bumper card in Bolton. Lowe was last seen in action just over a year ago out-pointing Alberto Guevara over ten rounds in Las Vegas on the undercard of the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury rematch.
With Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury looming we may just see Lowe appear on another undercard of his cousin’s but this time against Gill.
