Lyndon Arthur is set to return to the ring soon after inking a new promotional deal.
The former Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion has been out of action since losing to Anthony Yarde in their rematch last December.
Arthur outpointed Yarde in December 2020 to retain the Commonwealth belt while picking up the vacant WBO International bauble.
He then defended the fringe WBO crown with a stoppage win over Davide Faraci in July 2021 before being stopped by Yarde inside four rounds at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Neither Yarde or Arthur have been in action since their return clash, but with ‘The Beast From The East’ looking forward to an October 22 clash with WBC, IBF and WBO world light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev at the O2 Arena in London, it was time for ‘King’ Arthur to step up his return preparations, starting with signing a promotional pact with Wasserman Boxing.
The news was revealed on Saturday night and will see Arthur (19-1, 13 KOs) have his fights broadcast on Channel 5 after splitting with Frank Warren.
Arthur, who has been out in Canada sparring the aforementioned Beterbiev and also in the gym with fellow British light-heavyweight Joshua Buatsi, said:
“I went a little quiet after my last fight, and we just spent time fishing around for who could provide the best platform for me.
“I wanted someone who would get behind me and give me the best opportunities and Wasserman did that.
“I instantly had a good feeling about what they could do for me and they sounded as happy to work with me as I was with them. You don’t want to get that feeling that you’re the B-side when you’re working with a promotion, I understand it’s business, but Wasserman has been welcoming and shown they want to put work into me.”
Details of Arthur’s Wasserman and Channel 5 debut, as he looks to get back to winning ways, are expected to be revealed soon.
But Kalle Sauerland, Wasserman’s head of global boxing, was delighted to secure the signing of the Manchester man who is trained by Pat Barrett:
“Adding someone of his ambition, quality, and firepower not only says statements about what we want to do but about him wanting to join us and use our platform as soon as possible.
“I’ve been doing this long enough to have a cool approach to business, but I cannot deny how excited I am to showcase this man’s talents.”
