Promoter Bob Arum has said that news on Terence Crawford’s next fight will be announced within the week.
The Top Rank boss was speaking on YouTube channel Barbershop Conversations (March 29) and revealed his undefeated WBO welterweight champion will be in a “major fight” on pay-per-view.
“There’s going to be an announcement within the week on ‘Bud’ Crawford’s next fight” Arum said. “I can’t reveal it now, but it will be a major fight. This is a big deal. This is not just any old fight and it will be announced next week, and all the details will be announced at that time.”
Crawford was last in the ring in November barely breaking a sweat in halting Kell Brook in the fourth round of his fourth title defence.
The 33-year-old has been vocal of late regarding the chances of a fight between himself and Errol Spence Jr. It would be the welterweight clash that all of boxing wants to see, although Crawford recently told reporters at the Ortiz-Hooker fight that it will never happen.
As to who this “major fight”, as Arum described it, will be against is anyone’s guess. Crawford has long been linked to a fight against Manny Pacquiao, while fellow Americans Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman are also considered to be in the running. Crawford’s next move is greatly anticipated, and few fighters fit the bill of “a big deal”.
Arum also revealed that bantamweight king Naoya Inoue will fight on June 19. The IBF, WBA and RING magazine champion will face the IBF’s number one contender Michael Dasmarinas. Arum added that there would be a “very, very good undercard” added to the bill.
