Former world champion turned opinionated pundit Paulie Malignaggi has been told that he is ‘irrelevant’ by a fellow former world title holder.
Malignaggi never holds back with his views. His breakdown of fights, predictions for big match-ups and views on where boxers are in their careers are always frank and to the point.
Because of that he often riles fighters and promoters and that’s what has happened this week in light of his latest comments about George Kambosos Jr against Vasyl Lomachenko.
The fight is slated to happen in Australia in May for the vacant IBF title and, Malignaggi shared his thoughts to Pro Box TV.
“I think he probably barely wins a round or doesn’t win a round in this fight either. I feel like he should retire after this fight. He’s been able to set himself up financially in these fights. Credit to him for being able to maximize a win so well like he was able to in the Lopez fight.”
Those are sentiments echoed by lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, but Kambosos didn’t take too kindly to them when he saw them on X, and as such responded with his own message to Malignaggi.
“And I believe you haven’t been relevant since 2013! When AB took your girl & belt. You’ve been beaten up by mma fighters in bare knuckle & sparring, & kicked out of events since. You believe your own b******t, got 1 thing right though “Kambosos depositing another hefty check”
It’s fair to say Kambosos has a tough night ahead of him. After beating Teofimo Lopez, he was the unified lightweight champion but lost the belts in back-to-back defeats to Devin Haney and is now on the comeback trail after a narrow win over Maxi Hughes last time out.
