# Malik Scott Makes ‘Absolute’ Canelo-Benavidez Prediction

Trainer of Deontay Wilder, Malik Scott, has shared his prediction ahead of a potential undisputed super-middleweight title clash between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and David Benavidez – although he believes it may struggle to get made.

Benavidez has been extremely vocal in his consistent call-outs of Alvarez, who has seemed either reluctant or too occupied with other opponents to take the fight over the last couple of years.

However, [should Benavidez keep his WBC mandatory position](https://wp.boxing-social.com/news/wbc-on-canelo-mandatory-challenger/), it seems Canelo must either face him or vacate the world title, which Benavidez believes he should be stripped of, if the pair don’t meet in the ring next.

[In an interview with Fight Hype](https://youtu.be/NB4cfnmD2-4?si=2X898MnlIMHuDP_i), Scott beamed at the prospect of the spectacle, in which he favours the challenger, but feared that the showdown may have a ‘Anthony Joshua-Deontay Wilder’ effect and fail to take place.

> “I look at certain fighters and they remind me of, and I say this with all due respect, some gangster cartel s\*\*t . That’s what Benavidez reminds me of, and I heard that they \[Canelo and Benavidez\] used to box each other and it was beautiful. Do you know what I would have done if I saw them in the gym together, sparring each other? I would get my notepad out and I would sit there, with tonnes of humility, and take notes.”
>
> I would most definitely love to see Canelo fight Benavidez, but that may be something that has the Joshua-Wilder effect too, the Riddick Bowe-Lennox Lewis effect, a great fight that may not happen. In my opinion \[because of Canelo\].
>
> “Absolutely \[I favour Benavidez\]. S\*\*t yeah. I would go with Benavidez in that fight, but I love Canelo, I love what he’s doing.”

Before Benavidez can challenge to become a three-time world champion, he must first defeat [Demetrius Andrade, who he is set to face on November 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada](https://www.dazn.com/en-US/news/boxing/when-is-david-benavidez-vs-demetrius-andrade-ticket-info-fight-card-how-to-watch-and-stream/1lxbqv00lhwip14cxw2q2rrndc).
