Mark Tibbs has weighed on the upcoming blockbuster fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Liam Smith – and is backing Eubank to come out on top.
Despite envisaging Smith having a strong start, he believes Eubank will be the fresher fighter and that will get him the win down the stretch.
Speaking to Voice From The Corner that, Tibbs said:
“I feel that Liam Smith will get off to a very fast start, and use his quick counter punchers to take the lead.”
“Mid to late rounds, I think Eubank Jr has less mileage on the clock and I feel like he’ll come on strong to be victorious.”
“He could even get off the floor to get the victory over Smith.”
The fight, which is Sky Sports’ first pay per view offering of 2023, takes place this Saturday at a sold out Manchester Arena.
The boxing world is seemingly split right down the middle when it comes to picking a winner, though Eubank Jr is a marginal favourite with the bookmakers. This is in part due to the fact the contest will take place at ‘Next Gen’s natural home of middleweight, with Smith moving up from super welter for the first time in his career.
A one way rematch clause is in place, meaning Eubank will have the option of another crack at the Liverpudlian, should he fail to get the job done first time around.
However, with both men now entering their mid thirties, many feel defeat could spell the end for the loser this weekend, certainly when it comes to elite level, big money fights.
