WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez has been forced to withdraw from his rematch against McWilliams Arroyo due to illness.
Martinez and Arroyo were set to square off as the co-feature bout on the Rodriguez-Rungvisai card in San Antonio, live on DAZN.
‘El Rey’ previously faced Arroyo back in November 2021, with both men trading knockdowns in a wild three-round fight prior to an accidental head-butt from the Mexican leading to a no-contest verdict.
“Julio Cesar Martinez is forced to withdraw from our June 25 show in San Antonio due to illness,” A Statement from Matchroom Boxing read. “#FordMedina will now be elevated to the main card.”
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman also confirmed the bout was off, adding that he was disappointed by the ‘terrible situation’.
