Matchroom Announce New Event To Replace Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall After Postponement

In light of breaking news this week which sees the long-awaited rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall postponed, Matchroom has announced a new event on that date that will act as a replacement.

Many people have been waiting a long time for Caterall to get a second chance against Taylor. Their first fight almost two years ago ended controversially with Taylor winning on points even though he was knocked down and struggled to get a foothold in the fight.

As such, many believed that ‘El Gato’ deserved the win that night which would have left him as a four-belt undisputed champion. The pair have barely stopped going at one another on social media since and finally a date was locked in for them to settle their difference.

However, the April fight at the First Direct Arena in Leeds suffered a setback when Taylor announced an injury and needs until May to be ready. In the meantime, Matchroom has moved quickly and announced that the original date will still have a show.

A new post on X outlines the details.

“Peter McGrail’s rematch with Ja’Rico O’Quin will now take place on April 27 at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool. Full details for this NXTGEN event will be announced by Matchroom in due course.”

McGrail is out for revenge when he takes on the American for a second time having lost the first fight via fifth-round knockout on the undercard of Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez versus Sunny Edwards back in December.
