Conor Benn did not get the result he wanted this week when his appeal to UK Anti Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control failed and now the Matchroom CEO has responded.
Despite his hopes of clearing his name and returning to action in UK rings, the latest ruling has put his aspirations on hold. The appeal sought to overturn Benn’s temporary suspension, which was imposed after he tested positive for the banned substance clomifene before his scheduled bout with Chris Eubank Jr back in 2022.
Now, Frank Smith has spoken to Boxing Social about the result of the hearing;
“The truth is, it’s not something we can talk about, it’s an ongoing confidential legal matter, hence why there has been no comment from any of the parties involved, We’re not one of the parties involved in that, obviously UKAD, the BBBofC and Conor are, but it’s ongoing. As soon as there is more than can be spoken about, we will do.”
He was pushed again what happens now but declined to comment.
“It’s not something I can go into detail on. I know everybody wants answers to questions and it would be so much easier if we could speak openly but it’s an on-going matter. As soon as we can talk about it we will.”
Finally, he expressed frustration at the length of this process.
“I don’t know, I didn’t think we’d be here 18 months later. It’s been a long long period of his life and career taken up by this but hopefully, we can get him back in the UK ring as soon as possible.”
For now, all Benn can do is continue to train hard and leave his legal team to it.
