Yesterday the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will use 8 ounce gloves in their upcoming fight on August 26th.
The commission voted 5-0 in favour of the smaller gloves. The bout was originally supposed to happen with 10 ounce gloves but after Mayweather’s Instagram post, both camps opted to wear the smaller gloves.
But obviously, this did not happen without a bit of controversy.
The Nevada state athletic rulebook states that all fights above the 147 pound limit mandate 10 ounce gloves due to fighter safety. Mayweather and McGregor will fight at super welterweight(154 lbs). The commission voted against their own rule.
OFFICIAL: Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place in 8-ounce gloves. NSAC makes a one-time exception on its own rule. Wow.
