Heavyweight boxing legend, Mike Tyson, has vented his frustrations at the lack of recent big fights in boxing’s blue-ribbon division – but has named one man prepared to get in the ring with anyone.
Like Tyson, fans have grown frustrated at the lack of activity at the top end of the division, especially after a proposed mega card which would have seen the top 4 all fighting on the same night collapsed.
Speaking to the Mail Online, ‘Iron’ Mike praised the quality of the current heavyweights but criticised them for not facing each other.
‘It’s different now. Fighters are more athletic. They have great quality fighters in the heavyweight division, but they just need to fight each other. A lot of the time, bouts fall through with these heavyweights. They just need to fight each other!”
However, Tyson did single out one man for his courage to get in the ring with anyone – British heavyweight, Joe Joyce.
“Look at Joe Joyce. He fights anybody. I know he got beaten twice, but he’s fighting them. These other guys don’t even fight anybody to see who they are. They should be fighting each other twice or maybe even three times. Just f***ing fight!”
The former ‘baddest man on he planet’ may get his wish soon, after an announcement came last week that current WBC champion, Tyson Fury, will face WBA, WBO and IBF belt holder, Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia.
Both parties confirmed they have signed a deal and will fight each other during Riyadh Season in a clash which will crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
