Mike Tyson has weighed in with a prediction for the upcoming super middleweight clash between Caleb Plant and David Benavidez.
The two 168lb contenders will square off on March 25th in Las Vegas, with the winner surely in line for a world title shot.
And whilst ‘Iron Mike’ told ES News he was impressed by Plant’s showing against Anthony Dirrell last year, he said he’s backing Benavidez to come out on top.
“I was very impressed by Plant’s last fight, but I just don’t think anybody can beat Benavidez.”
Strong praise from a legend of the sport.
Tyson went onto list future opponents for ‘El Bandera Roja,’ and seems to see the 26 year old’s future up at light heavyweight.
“I want to see him fight Yarde, Bivol and all those other guys. He’s just got so many guys to fight – if they want to fight him.”
Plant stopped Dirrell in the 9th round of their October fight last year with a knockout of the year contender, announcing his return to the super middleweight division after falling short against Canelo Alvarez in 2021.
Benavidez, a former world champion and current WBC interim belt holder, fought just once in 2022, blowing away Canadian veteran David Lemieux in just three rounds back in May.
With a shot at undisputed king Canelo potentially in offering for the winner, the stakes could not be much higher when the two Americans do battle at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Plant had a three year run as IBF world champion, whilst Benavidez only lost his title due to missing weight, so both will come into the contest with their eyes set on getting another shot at what they no doubt feel is rightly theirs.
