Mike Tyson has a hugely controversial fight coming up with Jake Paul and has now been asked whether or not he intends to fight on after this bout.
This fight has been much talked about for several different reasons. The legend that is ‘Iron Mike’ is gearing up for a comeback fight against the young YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul on July 20 in Arlington, Texas, in a card that will be shown live on Netflix as the broadcaster makes its first moves into the sports world.
Tyson, who will be 58 by the time he steps foot in the ring again, retired from professional competition almost 20 years ago but did face fellow legend Roy Jones Jr in a November 2020 exhibition fight, which was scored a draw.
This upcoming contest was thought at first to be an exhibition but apparently, it was Tyson who pushed for it to be a full professional contest that will be marked on both men’s professional boxing records, and so it is. Neither will wear a headguard and it will be fought over two-minute rounds as Tyson has claimed that will lead to more action.
However, Tyson has also made a shocking claim this week that his body is hurting, and he has previously been seen walking with a stick due to back problems. They say that the last thing a boxer loses, however, is his power, and that is one thing that the fearsome Tyson always had in abundance on his way to becoming the youngest ever world heavyweight champion.
Now, speaking at a press conference ahead of the fight in a clip shared on Netflix, he has been asked if he will be competing again after this one.
“Hey this has been pretty fun. Maybe we’ll do it again, yeah.”
He was then asked who he might take on next and gave a straightforward answer that suggests he is fully focussed on this next fight.
“Can I take care of Jake first, please?”
On the undercard is a huge rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for the undisputed lightweight title, while Darren Till has also just been added in his boing debut again Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, son of boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez.
