Freddie Roach has shed light on the reaction of Mike Tyson to watching Jake Paul spar in the Wildcard gym – and revealed Tyson was less than impressed.
In fact, the legendary trainer told FightHype that Tyson had seen enough of the YouTuber after just thirty seconds of sparring.
“Tyson looked at him and he left.
Mike [Tyson] watched Jake spar. He watched 30 seconds of him spar and then said ‘Freddie, can we go downstairs.’
He just wasn’t interested in all of that.”
As for Roach himself, whilst not quite as damning as Tyson, he too was not exactly waxing lyrical about the ability of Paul.
“He’s just okay. Club fighter, maybe – I don’t know. I don’t really know him, he just wanted to use my gym and I said okay.”
Despite possessing limited limited ability in the eyes of many, there can be no questioning the commercial pulling power of Jake Paul, with huge hype already generated about his next fight – which was revealed to be against UFC legend Anderson Silva last week.
Scheduled for October 29th at the Gila River Arena in Arizona, Silva will undoubtedly represent the toughest test of Paul’s foray into professional boxing to date. As well as being a former UFC world champion, the Brazilian also boasts a professional boxing record of 3-1, and defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the ring just last year.
With Silva now 47, however, youth and freshness is very much on the side of Paul, which makes the contest an intriguing one and will provide an insight into just how far Jake Paul might be able to go.
