Former undisputed World heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has revealed that he believes Anthony Joshua to be the standout heavyweight in the world at the moment.
Tyson, who held five versions of the World heavyweight championship in the 80’s and 90’s, stated that the British superstar – who currently holds the WBA, IBF and WBO titles – was the most “put together” out of the current crop.
“Right now, Anthony Joshua seems to be the best out of the whole lot of them.” said Tyson in an interview with Seconds Out.
“He’s the bigger, stronger guy, more put together as well. More put together as far as his boxing skill is concerned as well.”
While many observers are pining to see Joshua square off against WBC belt holder Deontay Wilder, the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist returns to action on September 22nd against mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium.
Though fellow American Wilder has been vocal in calling for an undisputed showdown with Joshua, Tyson was resolute in his opinion, stating that Joshua was the division’s number one.
“I think he is the best fighter out of the lot of them.” finished Tyson.
With Wilder set to take on lineal champion Tyson Fury by the end of 2018, the winner of that bout could well find themselves in position to face Joshua in 2019.
However, if ‘Iron Mike’ is to be believed, they will enter any such contest as an underdog…
