Four-weight world champion Mikey Garcia says that his top post-lockdown priority is to secure a welterweight clash with ring legend Manny Pacquiao.
Garcia – who outpointed Jessie Vargas back in February in Frisco, Texas – told Matchroom’s ‘The Rounds’ show that he believes a mega-fight with Pacquiao is more likely to be made now than ever before.
“[Pacquiao] would still be the fight that I pursue the most. That would be a terrific, exciting fight,” said Garcia. “Pacquiao is a living legend and he comes to fight. That would add to my legacy – to be able to compete and get in the ring with the man himself.
“Even before my fight with Jessie Vargas, we were having some conversations with Team Pacquiao regarding a fight. They were onboard, and liked the idea. If things pick up, that would be a great fight.
“It had been brought up years ago as a future fight. The door is more open now than ever before. My brother and dad like that idea. Manny’s not a naturally big welterweight, so that gives me more of a competitive edge than [against] the other guys.”
