Ahead of his fight this Saturday night Marcus Morrison says he has the power to be the first man to knock out opponent Chris Eubank Jr.
The Mancunian middleweight, trained by Joe Gallagher, is a 12/1 underdog (with BetFred) to cause the upset on Matchroom Boxing’s Sky Sports Box Office card headlined by Dereck Chisora against Joseph Parker. Eubank Jr’s appearance is his first fighting under the Wasserman Boxing banner. Wasserman acquired Team Sauerland at the end of last month in their attempts to become a force in the sport.
Morrison is no stranger to causing a shock. The 28-year-old travelled to Italy in 2019 looking to reignite his career and did just that beating Emanuele Blandamura after coming from behind to land a big right hand to end matters in the 9th round. With the victory came the vacant WBC International Silver middleweight strap as well.
“I’m always dangerous. Only a fool would not respect my power,” Morrison told Sky Sports.
“I do carry the punch power to knock Chris Eubank Jr out. I do absolutely believe it.”
The career of Morrison (23-3, 16 KOs) was in jeopardy when he lost back-to-back fights against Jason Welborn and Tyan Booth, respectively, back in 2017. He would then lose again in 2018 in another surprise loss, this time against Alistair Warren. Morrison has bounced back to win seven fights on the spin since then and says he can put himself in the mix for fights against the very best at 160lbs should he pull off the upset this weekend.
“To pull this upset off would be one of the biggest upsets in UK boxing, especially when he’s talking about the likes of Canelo, Golovkin and all these fighters.
“If I go in there and spoil the party, where does that put me? It puts me right up there with the big names.”
Morrison added: “I honestly think the fans are in for a treat. When you put two fighters in, like me and Chris who can both punch, you’re in for an exciting fight.”
