Moses Itauma targeted by unbeaten 14-win American heavyweight contender

Moses Itauma continues to attract attention from rising heavyweight contenders, with unbeaten American prospect Richard Torrez Jr now openly expressing interest in a future showdown.

Torrez Jr, who holds an undefeated 14-0 professional record with 12 knockouts, spoke highly of Itauma while discussing possible fights down the line. The Olympic silver medalist emphasised that he sees the British heavyweight as one of the most exciting names in the division.

During a recent interview with The Ring Magazine, Torrez Jr described Itauma as an “incredible fighter” and suggested a clash between them would create fireworks.

“I think that he’s an incredible fighter,” Torrez Jr said.

The American heavyweight believes their styles would produce an explosive matchup for fans.

“I think that if we were able to collide and make something happen, it’d be fireworks, man,” he added.

The 26-year-old also emphasized that he has no interest in avoiding dangerous opponents and welcomes the biggest challenges available.

“I don’t run from smoke from anything like that. I want the best fights,” he said.

Torrez Jr sees Itauma fight as ‘epic’ opportunity

The undefeated American explained that the atmosphere surrounding a future fight with Itauma is something that already excites him.

“I think that would be a really, really cool opportunity,” Torrez Jr said.

Meanwhile, he also pointed to the entertainment factor of two young English-speaking heavyweights building a rivalry both inside and outside the ring.

“Being able to talk the trash, whatever. I’m not that good at it, I’ll learn a little bit better,” he joked.

Torrez Jr ultimately admitted that a fight with Itauma is something he would actively pursue in the future.

“Being able just to be in the atmosphere, man, it would be something epic,” he said. “That’s something I would search for.”

Meanwhile, the American southpaw is scheduled to take on Frank Sanchez on May 23 at Pyramids of Giza on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven.

Itauma continues attracting major attention

At just 21 years old, Itauma has rapidly become one of boxing’s most talked-about heavyweight prospects. His speed, composure, and knockout ability have already drawn praise from several figures across the sport. Fabio Wardley named him in his top 5 current heavyweights.

Moreover, his recent win over Jermaine Franklin Jr significantly boosted his profile. He stopped him in the fifth round. He extended his record to 14 wins, out of which 12 came via knockouts.

‘Enriko Itauma’ was expected to return to the ring on July 25. However, Frank Warren has now updated that the British heavyweight will return on August 8 at The O2 Arena.

Itauma’s moved from July 25 to avoid a broadcast clash with Anthony Joshua’s return fight against Kristian Prenga. Although no reports have linked the Brit to an opponent yet.

With contenders and prospects now openly targeting him, Itauma’s growing profile in the heavyweight division continues to rise.
