Mexican middleweight contender Jaime Munguia will now meet Poland’s former world title challenger Kamil Szeremeta at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso on June 19, live on DAZN.
Former WBO 154lbs champion Munguia had been set to clash with Szeremeta’s countryman Maciej Sulecki, but his fellow Pole withdrew for as yet undisclosed reasons, according to ESPN Knockout’s Julius Julianis.
Munguia (36-0, 29 KOs) has struggled for opponents since halting Tureano Johnson in six last October. He was originally set to face Sulecki in April before the Pole withdrew with an injury, then replacement opponent D’Mitrius Ballard also pulled out hurt. The show was rearranged for June before Sulecki withdrew again.
The Mexican is currently rated the No.1 contender for the WBC title held by Jermall Charlo and the WBO crown held by Demetrius Andrade.
Szeremeta (21-1, 5 KOs) hasn’t fought since being floored four times en route to a seventh-round loss to IBF champion Gennadiy Golovkin in December.
