The legendary Naseem Hamed has revealed who he believes is currently the number one heavyweight on the planet.
The consensus amongst the majority of the boxing world is that WBC champion Tyson Fury currently sits at the top of the blue ribbon division, though an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk is needed to cement that standing.
Speaking to Talksport, ‘Prince Naz’ admitted that he also ranks Fury as number one, though is “sick and tired” of the inability to finalise a clash between Fury and Usyk.
“Usyk has come along and he’s done his thing, but Tyson Fury is still there, Tyson Fury is still number one.”
“These guys are the heavyweight champions of the world – let’s see them fight! I want to see them fight man, I’m sick and tired of all this bull****!”
Despite the calls from Naz – and just about everyone else – for a fight with Usyk, Fury’s next bout will not be against the masterful Ukrainian, or a professional boxer at all for that matter.
‘The Gypsy King’ takes on former UFC heavyweight world champion Francis Ngannou on October 28th in Saudi Arabia, though his WBC belt will not be on the line.
Fury and Ngannou have been linked to a bout for over a year now, ever since Ngannou took to the ring following Fury’s stoppage victory over Dillian Whyte last April.
Ngannou has a reputation as one of the hardest punchers in the history of MMA, and has ended 12 of his 17 victories inside the distance, so it would appear that he has the power to rival any top heavyweight in the world of boxing.
However, he is expected to fall well short in the realms of speed, technique and ring IQ against a fighter as skilled and accomplished as Fury.
