Shortly after announcing his boxing debut against Jake Paul, Nate Diaz made the headlines for fighting outside of the octagon, and the ring for that matter.
The former UFC star was attending a Misfits crossover boxing event in New Orleans earlier in the evening of April 21 before a brawl broke out on Bourbon Street, a famous strip in New Orleans.
Diaz, who has recently signed to fight Jake Paul in the boxing ring, was filmed choking Rodney Peterson – a content creator and Logan Paul lookalike – until he fell unconscious to the ground.
The New Orleans Police Department released the following statement, as per MMA Fighting.
“At or about 2:10am on Saturday April 22- NOPD’s Bourbon Street. Promenade officers and supervisors were alerted to a large altercation in the 400 block of Bourbon St.
The officers were able to disperse the crowd. Witness alerted the officers to a white male subject who was believed to be unconscious. A short time later, the subject regained consciousness.
Officers observed the subject was bleeding from the rear of his head and EMS was summoned to render aid. After investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Nate Diaz. He has been charged with second degree battery. He is not in custody at this time.”
With Diaz’s trouble with the law perhaps stalling the Paul fight – set for August 5 in Texas – another man was quick to throw his hat in the ring – KSI.
Paul and the UK’s KSI have had a long running feud that has spilled over into this boxing space that both can be credited with creating, and a fight between them is seen as inevitable.
The American accepted KSI’s offer, laying out the terms.
Great. I accept you as the backup opponent. Fight is at 185. There are no rehydration clauses. Stay in shape and we will give you a call if needed. Thanks buddy for being so humble and committed. https://t.co/Mz5TD5R9FV
