Two-time WBC title challenger Luis Ortiz has strongly denied that he turned down a clash with fellow heavyweight contender Joe Joyce.
Londoner Joyce recently claimed that the Cuban southpaw had passed over the opportunity for a fight, but King Kong Ortiz has furiously rejected that suggestion.
“Joe Joyce is a liar and it’s very embarrassing to him as a man and as a boxer because at no time has he spoke to me, or [manager] Jay Jimenez or [trainer] Herman Caicedo,” Ortiz told writer Ryan Burton of BoxingScene.
“We at King Kong’s boxing camp would love to know who this little ego man spoke to and why would he lie when he knows full well Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz has never turned down a fight in his life.
“Our camps don’t even have communication or even have each other’s number.”
Ortiz (32-2, 27 KOs & 2 NC) was last seen sweeping aside Alexander Flores in a round last November whilst Joyce (13-0, 12 KOs) halted former world title challenger Carlos Takam in six in July.
