In a recent interview with Boxing King Media on YouTube, legendary former world boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya surprised fans with an unexpected proposal: a free fight against promoter Eddie Hearn.
De La Hoya’s offer comes in response to Hearn’s previous statements, where he mentioned he would consider a personal fight against De La Hoya if offered a multimillion-dollar, double-digit payout.
The possibility of seeing two prominent boxing promoters face off in the ring has sparked significant interest among fans.
Eddie Hearn, as the head of Matchroom Boxing, and Oscar De La Hoya, founder of Golden Boy Promotions, have become known for their rivalries outside the ring.
However, the idea of watching them actually fight has caused a stir, as such a matchup between two high-profile promoters is unprecedented.
In a previous interview, Hearn noted that he wouldn’t mind fighting De La Hoya if a good financial offer was made. According to Hearn, he would be willing to put on the gloves if His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, made an appealing proposal.
This statement generated buzz in boxing circles and prompted Oscar De La Hoya to respond publicly.
In response to Hearn’s remarks, De La Hoya expressed his willingness to face the British promoter but added a surprising twist: he would do it for free.
In his interview with Boxing King Media, De La Hoya made it clear that he is not seeking any financial compensation, just enough time to prepare properly.
“Your Excellency, I will fight Eddie for free as a gift to you. For free. It will be my pleasure,” stated De La Hoya.
“I only need about two months of training. I still have my jab, my power. I need two months of training. I already know the combination I would knock him out with. I don’t want to share it just in case we do fight,” said De La Hoya.
Oscar De La Hoya showed confidence in his skills and predicted that if the fight takes place, it would last only four or five rounds.
“I think it would last four or five rounds. I want to have some fun in there,” De La Hoya commented.
These statements have sparked mixed reactions, ranging from those who view the matchup as a historic event to those who consider it a promotional strategy for both companies.
The prospect of a fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Eddie Hearn has generated great excitement, especially due to the uniqueness of the bout. Both promoters have been rivals in business and strategy, but seeing them face off physically in the ring would be an unprecedented spectacle.
The interest of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh in hosting high-profile sporting events in Saudi Arabia could play a key role in making this unusual fight happen.
For now, De La Hoya’s proposal to fight for free and Hearn’s openness to hearing offers have fueled rumors and interest among fans. Undoubtedly, if this fight materializes, it could become one of the most talked-about events in recent boxing history.
