Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya’s relationship appears to now beyond the point of salvation, with the Golden Boy boss taking another public swipe at his biggest fighter.
In a post on his official Instagram account, Garcia showed he had been spending time with Floyd Mayweather, who got the better of De La Hoya via split back in 2007 in one of the biggest commercial bouts of this century.
De La Hoya has always contended he won that night, though the consensus amongst most observers is that the right man got his hand raised at the Grand Garden Arena.
And Garcia’s post with his former nemesis has clearly rubbed him up the wrong way, judging by the comment he left:
“Good seeing you with the guy I beat [heart emoji]
It was announced recently that De La Hoya’s Golden Boy promotional outfit will be suing Garcia over a contractual dispute, whist the fighter himself has initiated a lawsuit in response.
Garcia and De La Hoya’s relationship has been on a steep decline ever since the 24-year-old’s loss to Gervonta Davis back in April, after which the hall of fame promoter caught flack for failing to attend the post-fight press conference – he would later claim that death threats made him leave the arena early.
From Garcia’s perspective, he will no doubt hope the situation can be resolved as soon as possible so he can rebuild from the Davis defeat and look towards more big fights one division up, as he remains one of the biggest commercial draws in boxing.
