In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, shared important details regarding Ryan Garcia’s potential return to the ring in April of next year. De La Hoya mentioned a new key target for Garcia, dismissing the possibility of a rematch with Devin Haney.
During the interview, De La Hoya made it clear that both he and Garcia have high-profile fights and significant challenges in mind. When asked about a potential rematch with Haney, De La Hoya dismissed the idea, confirming they are focused on a different direction. “Who I really want to see him against is Teofimo Lopez,” he stated. According to De La Hoya, Lopez, considered one of the best in the 140-pound division, is the ideal opponent for Garcia’s return and represents the type of challenge they are both seeking.
Oscar De La Hoya also shared in the interview an update on Garcia’s physical and emotional condition.
De La Hoya stated that Garcia has resumed training and is in excellent shape, working intensely in the gym to prepare for his return in April. “Ryan is amazing. He’s doing great, he’s in the gym, he’s looking good, and he can’t wait for his return in April,” De La Hoya assured, emphasizing that the team is preparing for a comeback “bigger than ever.”
It’s worth noting that Ryan Garcia was handed a retroactive one-year ban in boxing following his fight against Devin Haney. After the bout, it was reported that Garcia tested positive for Ostarine, an anabolic steroid, both on weigh-in day and on fight day. Following the doping test result, Garcia’s victory was overturned and classified as a “no-contest.” Additionally, the Haney family recently filed a lawsuit against Garcia, further complicating his professional situation.
Now, with April in sight, the possibility of a fight between Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez captures fans’ attention. Garcia’s return next year will mark the end of a period of ups and downs in his career, and according to Oscar De La Hoya, it will be an event with “months of preparation” that promises to meet the public’s expectations.
