Mexican PPV superstar, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is currently serving a six-month suspension. That decision came about following the 2-weight world champion testing positive for Clenbuterol on February 17th and February 20th.
His team have stood by their claim, that the positive test came about as a result of ‘Canelo’s consumption of contaminated meat.
But former 6-weight world champion and promoter of Canelo, Oscar De La Hoya has leapt to the defence of his fighter and is very adamant that Alvarez is ‘one of the cleanest fighters I know.’
“Canelo is getting really the short end of the stick here because obviously he’s a popular fighter and a lot of people are gonna hate on him,” Oscar says.
“But he’s been one of the cleanest fighters I’ve known. He’s passed numerous of tests, and you know … it was very unfortunate.”
“Canelo’s a clean fighter and he’ll get tested every single day from now until the fight,” De La Hoya told TMZ Sports.
“It’s unfair,” De La Hoya told TMZ Sports.
“Look, it’s a huge problem in Mexico. It’s been proven over and over again, so Canelo’s really getting the short end of the stick here because obviously he’s a popular fighter and a lot of people are gonna hate on him.

Discussing the ongoing problem of Mexican athletes testing positive for clenbuterol, Oscar De La Hoya added “It’s very common,”
De La Hoya said regarding Mexico’s meat-contamination problem. “It was proven when the Mexican national soccer team got tested. It’s been proven over and over again.”
“Look, there’s a couple of NFL players that went down there and got tested, and they tested positive for clenbuterol. So it’s a common thing.”
Elsewhere, De La Hoya discussed Golovkin’s recent advertisement for Jordan, where he took aim at his Mexican counterpart’s meat excuse.
“To me it’s bulls**t,” Oscar said … “Once they fight in September, I’ll tell you one thing — Canelo’s gonna freaking wail on him.”
