Jr lightweight and jr featherweight pound-for-pounds greats Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1) and Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0) could be close to stepping into the same ring.
Both Lomachenko and Rigondeaux are ranked number one in their divisions by Ring Magazine. They are both considered to be very highly skilled and technical if not even flawless boxers.
Lomachenko was scheduled to fight Orlando Salido on August 5th but Salido had to back out due to an injury. Rigondeaux has now called out Lomachenko.
“If @trboxing and @rocnation want to make history have Loma [Lomachenko] and I fight each other and let’s see who is #1,” wrote Rigondeaux.
There have been intense debates among boxing purists about who is the best technical and skilled boxer in the world. The names Lomachenko and Rigondeaux are a part of that conversation but which one is better is the question.
“If they’re going to come, Top Rank, and they’re going to say,’they want to fight’ and make a deal with Top Rank, Top Rank will come back to us and we will approve the fight. I don’t have any problems. If they want to come in and fight at 130 – we have no problem. We will be very happy. If they make the August date, we’re very happy to fight Rigondeaux,” said Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas.
