Manny Pacquiao Jr. has suggested his father lost the final fight of his career due to injury.
The son of the Filipino legend spoke about his old man’s defeat at the hands of Yordenis Ugas in the wake of winning an amateur title.
Pacquiao Jr., who won his fourth fight from five, picked up the WBA belt in the unpaid code.
And he said the reason behind Pacquiao Sr’s loss to the Cuban in August 2021 was a result of one thing.
Speaking to Marca Pacquiao Jr said:
“He’s had trouble with his legs. During this training camp, I saw it, because I’ve been following him the whole time. I think that if he gets a good camp, of course, he can beat Ugas.”
Pacquiao, a multi-division champion in his time, focused on the presidential election in his home country in the wake of his loss to Ugas but failed to garner enough votes for victory.
After the defeat in the ring he said:
“I did my best, but my best wasn’t good enough tonight. No excuses.”
“I wanted to fight for the title in the ring, and tonight the champion’s name is Ugas. I’ve done a lot for boxing, and boxing has done a lot for me.”
“Congratulations to Ugas and his team. Thank you to all of you. In the future, you may not see Manny Pacquiao again to fight in the ring.”
The 43-year-old will be back in action in a non-competitive capacity later this year when he takes on South Korean YouTuber DK Yoo over six two-minute rounds, with the December 11 event planning to raise funds for victims of the war in Ukraine and homeless families in the Philippines.
