Paul Bamba has given some insight into his treatment last weekend over the cancellation of his scheduled fight with Tommy Fury – and put some serious allegations the way of the event organisers, Global Titans.
Bamba was scheduled to face Fury as co-main event to Floyd Mayweather vs Deji at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai. However, Fury weighed in around 7lbs heavier than him and, when Bamba initially refused to agree to fight on those conditions, it was pulled from the card.
He told Boxing Social what happened in the immediate aftermath.
“I had hands placed on me from the owner of Global Titans. These guys had their hands in my face in front of about 100 plus people, telling me to ‘get the f*** out’ and that I was ‘nobody.’ That was shortly after we weighed in, all because I said I was being treated unfairly.”
“After having hands in my face, I didn’t want to talk to anyone from Global Titans. I was by no means disrespectful to anyone. They said I was disrespectful to journalists – that’s a bold faced lie.”
“Up until the point I was pulled off the card, I done everything I was contractually obligated to do. I was a bit short with people, but I wasn’t disrespectful or cussing at people. I did end up cussing a few times after I was taken off the card, but I think after a week of being toyed with that’s normal for anyone to do.”
Bamba also claims that he was removed from the fighter hotel and his flight back to America was cancelled, and that he took a financial hit dealing with all of that whilst not being paid by Global Titans. He said the way he was treated was ‘100% inhumane.’
Jake Paul, who was sat ringside and on commentary, heckled Fury which led to a fracas between the two post fight. Talks are said to be progressing well for a clash between the pair in 2023, potentially in the UK.
