Former champion Paulie Malignaggi thinks the blame for Tim Tszyu losing to Sebastian Fundora lies at the door of one man.
Tszyu’s fight on Amazon Prime was marred by setbacks starting with the fact the original opponent Keith Thurman suffered a bicep injury late in turning so was replaced with late stand-in Fundora.
Tszyu fought on valiantly when many people think the fight should have been stopped and Tszyu should have been saved for another day when he would have come out of the fight with win.
Instead, he boxed on a lost on points with the judges scoring it 115-113, 116-112, and 112-116 in Fundora’s favour. Speaking to ProBox TV, Malignaggi didn’t hold back in his criticism.
“It doesn’t matter whether the corner or the fighter says he can’t see a cut is not life-threatening, you do not consider cuts life-threatening, you stop fights on cuts because of blood.
“Lastly it comes down to that clown, cracker jack, medical degree having doctor that they had in the corner and the commission that hired him. That was utterly ridiculous dude, that was ridiculous.”
Many believe that Tszyu deserves a rematch, and though one was not in the contract, Fundora’s team has said they will give him one, much to the chagrin of Errol Spence Jnr and Terence Crawford who would both like their own shot at Fundora next.
