Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois looks set to be announced imminently, and well-respected trainer Peter Fury has now weighed in on the mammoth bout.
Boxing fans had been teased for a long period that Joshua was on a collision course with Croatian Olympic Silver Medalist Filip Hrgovic, but Dubois ripped up the script on June 1st, halting Hrgovic in round eight to shake up the heavyweight division and capture the IBF ‘Interim’ world heavyweight title.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Fury revealed his prediction for the potential clash, believing ‘AJ’ might have too much for Dubois, but doesn’t rule him out as he has improved in his last few outings.
“Very interesting one, they can both punch for sure.
“You’d have to go with Joshua because he has that experience, and he’s got that sharpness and the speed. He’s mixed at that level as well, that very high level.
“But, Dubois has improved in his last few fights. Very much so.
“It’s still a dangerous fight for Joshua, but you’d still have to favour Joshua in it, just for the sheer experience. But Dubois is a big puncher, and the little gloves, anything can happen.”
His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has confirmed that there will be a press conference on Wednesday 26th June to announce a huge card emanating from Wembley Stadium on September 21st, with Anthony Joshua reportedly in the headline slot.
This would be Joshua’s fourth fight under the Wembley Arch, with his first being in 2014, stopping Matt Legg within a round on the undercard of the rematch between Carl Froch and George Groves.
‘AJ’ went on to headline at the Stadium in 2017, claiming an 11th-round stoppage over heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko in one of British boxing’s greatest nights, before headlining again in 2018 with a seventh-round knockout of Alexander Povetkin.
A fight between Joshua and Dubois would have huge implications on the world title scene in the heavyweight division, as it is still unknown as to whether the IBF world title will be on the line in the huge heavyweight rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury that is slated for December 21st in Riyadh.
As for [Peter] Fury, he will be back in the corner of his son, Hughie, this Saturday. Hughie will be competing in his third fight since his two-year hiatus from the sport, following victories over Kostiantyn Dovbyschenko and Patrick Korte, Hughie returns on a GBM show in Coventry, with an opponent yet to be confirmed.
