IBF super-middleweight king Caleb Plant says he has spotted weaknesses in WBC, WBA Super and WBO champion Canelo Alvarez’s game and will exploit them should they meet in an anticipated undisputed title fight in September.
Mexican star Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) added the WBO 168lbs crown to his belt collection in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday with an eighth-round retirement win over Billy Joe Saunders and immediately set his sights on a unification with Nashville’s skilful Plant (21-0, 12 KOs).
But ‘Sweethands’ is undaunted by that prospect and maintains he has spotted flaws in Canelo’s latest triumph.
“[I’ve] seen things I feel like I can take advantage of and some mistakes or just some weak spots that I feel I can capitalise on,” Plant told The PBC Podcast. “And, here soon, when we get that fight signed, I can show y’all in person.
“He’s a good fighter, but I feel like I’m the better fighter. I feel like that I have more attributes.
“I know he has a lot of experience. But sometimes experience can be overrated. And I feel like I got the heart and the mind, the skills and just the full package to go in there and do what has to be done.”
