The battle of the Calebs is on. IBF super-middleweight king Caleb Plant will defend his title against former champion Caleb Truax on January 30 at a venue to be confirmed.
‘Sweethands’ Plant (20-0, 12 KOs) was in the running to face Canelo Alvarez this weekend before the Mexican star opted to face WBA Super champion Callum Smith instead.
This will be the Nashville man’s third defence since beating José Uzcátegui (W12) for the IBF 168lbs crown in January 2019.
Truax (31-4-2, 19 KOs and 1 NC) briefly held the same IBF belt after dethroning James DeGale in a big upset at the Copper Box Arena in Hackney back in December 2017. DeGale regained the crown from the Minnesota fighter on the cards four months later in Las Vegas.
