Shawn Porter has picked his winner from Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford after facing both men.
The undisputed welterweight fight is the highlight of boxing’s calendar year so far, and has appeased fans after years of failed talks and promotional disputes.
Both champions are undefeated and have conquered some of the top names at 147lbs to get to where they are today – and that includes Porter.
Spence beat him in 2019, scoring a knockdown on the way to a split decision victory. Crawford was more definitive in his performance, putting a full stop on it in the form of a tenth round TKO.
On his podcast, Porter was goaded into picking a winner after sitting on the fence for a while.
“Somebody text me the other day and I said ‘yeah I feel the same way.’ If I had to bet my life on it, if I had to put money on it, a lot of money on it… I’d put my money on Terence Crawford.”
Roy Jones Jr, who was a guest on the podcast, then said he would take Porter’s word for it because he was one of the most qualified men to make the pick.
In the same segment, however, Porter did say that Spence ‘thumps harder’ than his opponent.
Like many other breakdowns and predictions, Porter’s words perhaps add more intrigue to the fight rather than help anybody to make up their mind.
Spence and Crawford know the magnitude, too – both agreeing at the kick-off press conference that the man who has his hand raised in Las Vegas on July 29 will be regarded as the best fighter of a generation.
