Retired heavyweight contender David Price has given his view on how the fight between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou might play out when the two face each other as part of Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia next month.
This will be Joshua’s fourth fight in 11 months. In 2023 he beat Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius and Otto Wallin, while former UFC champion Ngannou made his boxing debut against Tyson Fury in October.
Ngannou ran him close on points over 10 rounds and also managed to knock him down which has now got people wondering if Fury will be ready for Usyk.
Speaking to IFL TV, Price first spoke of how crazy the situation is regarding Ngannou’s first two professional boxing opponents.
“When you put it like that it’s mad. He’s got profile, he’s well known and he’s a fantastic mixed martial artist so it’s not some fella just dragged off the street and put in with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
“He can strike and take blows and is experienced in his field. He’s been very fortunate, he’s probably going to earn more than in an entire career in UFC and he’s been fortunate that Fury didn’t perform in the first fight.
“Put him in with Fabio Wardley on the same night and I think it would have been done and dusted in four rounds. It was more about how bad Fury was on the night, underprepared and not taking him seriously.”
He then explained what he thinks will happen in the fight with Joshua.
“I think Joshua will walk through him really in a boxing match. I think it will magnify what happened with Fury and get people talking more again.”
