The WBO Interim super-middleweight title fight between Zach Parker and Demetrius Andrade will be staged in the UK.
Queensberry Promotions beat Matchroom Boxing for the second purse bid in a row with a winning offer of $1,834,050.00 which was over $80,000 more than the $1,750,00.00 submission from the runners up. The split will be 65-35 in Andrade’s favour.
The scheduled date for the bout will be May 21, live on BT Sport, and the WBO also revealed that London, Derby and Birmingham are in the running to host the fight.
Parker (22-0, 16 KOs) is the number one contender with the WBO while Andrade (31-0, 19 KOs) is moving up from 160 to 168lbs having been their super-middleweight champion since October 2018. Prior to that the American had been the WBO champion at 154lbs from 2013 to 2017.
Frank Warren, Parker’s promoter, had been planning a homecoming in Derby for his next fight before the Interim opportunity arose. That, however, could still be the case if a suitable venue can be found.
Facing Andrade will be a significant step up for the hard-hitting Brit. Unbeaten in 22 fights the 27-year-old took care of former Chris Eubank Jr opponent Marcus Morrison in four rounds last time out. Parker also has wins over Rohan Murdock (TKO11) and Vaugh Alexander (TKO2) in the last two years.
Although this will be his first pro fight in Britain Andrade is no stranger to facing opponents from these shores. The 2008 Olympian holds victories over Brian Rose and Liam Williams and has also proved far too much for Irish challengers Luke Keeler and Jason Quigley.
