There a host of mouth watering all American fights to be made amongst the lightweight and super lightweight division, which are both amongst the strongest in the sport.
Fans are being treated to one such clash in December, when WBC 140lbs champion Regis Prograis will defend his strap against former undisputed 135lbs champion Devin Haney.
However, in a recent interview with ESNews, Prograis broke down a different stateside affair – a potential showdown between Gervonta Davis and Teofimo Lopez – and explained why he would favour Davis to get the better of ‘The Takeover’ if the fight ever happened.
“That’s a huge fight. I think I’ll go with ‘Tank’ on that one. I lean more towards for that one, because Teo has been put down by a southpaw before.”
Following his stoppage win over Ryan Garcia back in April, Davis’ star power is bigger than his ever been, and the though of all American derbies against the likes of Haney and Stevenson has fans salivating.
His momentum was slowed somewhat by a brief jail stint over the summer, however he is now back in the gym and said to be angling for a return to the ring in early 2024.
The rumoured frontrunners to land the money spinning fight are PBC stablemates Frank Martin and Isaac Cruz, with the latter being one of only two men to take Davis the distance.
Lopez is riding the crest of a wave at the moment after becoming a two weight world champion earlier this year, and a marquee match up between him and former Davis opponent Garcia has been tipped to land in the first half of 2024
