Jake Paul has revealed that their could be a second fight with Tommy Fury depending on how the first plays out.
Gone are the days that rematch clauses are put in place when a world champion makes a voluntary defense. More and more, the second fight contract stipulations are popping up in the sport of boxing in big money fights, often stunting the progression of its stars.
The latest to have such a clause is Jake Paul versus Tommy Fury – a fight which has nothing but bragging rights on the line between two competitors who have 14 fights between them.
In a recent solo press conference to officially announce the bout, Jake Paul said he ‘believes’ there is a rematch clause on his side.
With no mention of the same for Fury, it can be assumed that he won’t have the option should he taste defeat at the hands of the American.
Fans will read into it as much as they choose to, and it may provide the Brit with some necessary ammunition come fight week. He’ll be able to claim Paul’s side lacks confidence in their man, and that he needed no such thing.
The fight is set for Sunday, February 26 in Saudi Arabia, with BT Sport Box Office handling the broadcast in the UK and ESPN+ Taking the reins in the states.
It’s to be fought at a catch-weight of 185lb, with penalties incurred for coming in heavier. With less than a month left to go until fight night, we expect news of the undercard imminently.
The pair locked horns for the first time in-person recently to kick off the promotion, with security being forced to step in and separate them.
