The high-profile clash between legendary duo Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. has reportedly been postponed and rescheduled to November 28.
Originally scheduled for the Dignity Health Park in Carson, California, on September 12, the reasons for the apparent delay are purely financial.
According to The Ring, Tyson’s team felt that a longer run-up to the fight could maximise its revenue potential before Jones approved the switch. Further time is also required to secure international television deals for the event, according to ESPN.com.
The eight-round exhibition bout was originally announced on July 23, but has been beset with issues with the California State Athletic Commission originally petitioning for headguards and VADA entering the conversation as the issue of drug-testing raised its head.
Having whipped himself into tremendous shape, the 54-year-old Tyson has promised to seek the knockout against Jones, 51, despite the fight’s exhibition status as the promotion continues to steal the headlines. Love it or hate it, you can’t possibly ignore this fight.
A six-round cruiserweight bout between YouTube star Jake Paul (1-0, 1 KO) and former NBA player Nate Robinson (debut) is also set to feature on the pay-per-view show to be streamed on the Triller platform.
